OBGYN Week 5 of 6: Clinics

Well, I'm back to the quiet, regular life of 8-5 clinic. Some have been more enjoyable than others.

I still get these visceral reactions to things like counseling teenage girls about unprotected sex (and their assorted baby daddies--"You have chlamydia. We'll need to treat your partner too. How many extra pills do you need for your partners? Six? Okay, make sure you give all six partners the pill to take") and things like childbirth just terrify me on a personal and professional level.

I don't like the politics of women's health and all of the enormous barriers to care. I can't deal effectively with it because I empathize to the point of paralytic helplessness.

I have 3 more days of ObGyn before two days of exams (including one day of UroGyn surgeries, which I requested).

And I can't wait.

As a bonus thought, I've been reflecting on my medical school application journey. I was pretty stressed about it as the decision wore on (I was about to go on vacation in Hawaii and still didn't know exactly where I would end up), but things turned out fine. It wasn't without rivers of tears and enough stress hormones to drown a person. I'm sure residency apps will turn out okay in the end as well.
