Current placement:
Outpatient Internal Medicine (4 weeks)
Next placement:
Out in Nowheresville, Iowa for a rural medicine rotation (4 weeks)
Current disposition:
Feeling hopeful. Outpatient Internal Med is known to be chill and a 8-5 day that is broken up into morning and afternoon chunks with different preceptors and clinics. The ones I picked are the ones that intimidate me most: Cardiology, Pulmonology, and Hepatology. I also threw in Infectious Diseases and general GI because I like those a lot! I figured it was a good time to learn the things I fear without having to stick with the same preceptors everyday.
I'm trying really hard not to let my evaluations get the best of me. Let me rephrase. I have gotten very, very good evaluations these last 12 weeks. But the more I get praise from attendings, the more afraid I am of messing up and ruining my reputation. I think that's why I've been feeling burned out and dry.
New things:
Now that I have time again, I'm going to plan to have intentional, one-on-one dinners at least once a week for the entire month before I move to my rural med rotation. I have not initiated plans for a very long time now. It's time I rebuild some relationships.
And oh, I went to Chicago this weekend. It was fantastic to sleep and eat and shop and hang out with friends.
