M4 Year

Well, M4 year is off to a sleepy start.

For one, since the fourth years graduated 6 weeks ago, we've long been default promoted. I've been calling myself an M4 for weeks. It's both terrifying and kind of unbelievable that so much time has passed.

Also, I took Step 2 CK on Friday. Nine hours of brain being pounded to mush (but not as badly as Step 1--or so I felt...who knows what the results will be). Then I flew home early on Saturday morning, which brought me into SF around noon. I then flew back Monday morning. I think I was home for like 40 hours or so. It wasn't that restful, but I got to make some peace at home and also eat lots of good food. So it was worth it. It's sad to think this was the only weekend this entire year that I didn't have to either a) work or b) study.

Today, I started Neurology. It's a third year clerkship technically, but a few of us didn't get seats during third year and are now taking it with M3s. It's fine because we are the majority, none of us are going into Neurology, and we all have senioritis.

For example, today, in between lectures during orientation, I scuttled off to the call room and took a nap. Then I finished a VA training early and took the bus home. Then I drove back to school and paid for parking. I interacted with 0 patients today and used my brain 0 times. So it was a nice transition back to what I hope will be a month of rest and recuperation before my craziness starts again (August--Surgery SubInternship. September--Breast Surgery Advanced Elective. October--Surgery ICU).

But life is good, and Allen is coming to visit tomorrow.
