Hello November! + Dad's Birthday

Today is my dad's 60th birthday. I called home (my dad answered with, "Who is this?" because he had been spam-called so many times regarding tomorrow's election--haha) and of course, my mom takes over the phone immediately and started chatting away.

Three day ago, I texted my brothers: "Dad's birthday on Monday--what are you guys doing?" Little C says, "I dunno, call maybe?" and Big C has no response (typical).

I decide to order my dad a selfie stick with a note from all of us (it's never from all of us) with one-day shipping. He's always looking for photo opportunities (and not just on vacation...I think we kids come home so rarely that he feels the need to document everything from dinner at a shabby restaurant on Irving Street to being home). I figured he would get use out of this instead of spending anxious moments identifying trustworthy and capable strangers to take photos for us.

Little C says, "Cute. Good thinking, sis."
Big C says, "What's a selfie stick?"

I think it would be a different story if I was actually home and had to be seen with the selfie stick in public. We'll see what happens during winter break.

Once my mom finished telling me all about work and dinner and the backyard cats and mailing me things (I live for my mom's packages of grass jelly, canned fried gluten, pocky, Asian pears, persimmons), I got my dad back on the phone.

He is thrilled with the selfie stick. I asked him if he knew what it was, and he said something like, "Are you kidding me? Of course!" which means he's probably had his eye on one for a while and just didn't want to spend money on himself. A bluetooth remote control is on its way.

That also perfectly described my family in a nutshell.
