Where did June go?

June seems to have been spent baking treats and treating mice. Oh, and exercising a lot! Did I ever tell you that I don't really exercise during the school year? There simply isn't time for me to drive three miles to the gym (can't exercise outside, too hot or too snowy) and even if I did, I need to save my energy for studying! For real.

But anyways, since it's the summer, I attend a bunch of exercise classes a week with med friends (I miss Abs & Back at Berkeley, but High Intensity Training at UI is on a whole 'nother level). One of my workout buddies happens to be a large body builder who benches ~300lbs, and he thought that these group fitness classes were "just for chicks." Well, we proved him wrong. And he's been coming with me for a month now. We're getting a group together and it's been fun! Plus there's not a day that I'm not sore from one of the classes, which means I waddle around lab and groan and moan on a daily basis.

We just hosted a conference on one of the diseases that my PI researches, and it was the most inspirational weekend I'd had in a long time. Meeting patients with this rare disease from all over the country was so impactful that after each plenary session I ran to lab to conduct my experiments with renewed resolve. It's the race to find the cure in an academic, philanthropic way, really. And my school just built a $3 million GMP facility right under our noses, and our future in gene therapy and stem cell research is mind blowing.

June was truly a game changer.
