Care Packages

Without fail, my parents have mailed me a large care package every single week that I've lived in Iowa (that's 8 if you were counting, but I think I was the only one). Each box weighs as much as my mom dares to fit into the biggest fixed rate Priority Mail box, which she packs meticulously with no gaps. When I get the magic key for accessing the USPS package locker, I always run-walk excitedly up to my 4th floor apartment, arms aching from lugging a 20-lb treasure chest.

My mom has mailed me everything from shacha sauce, canned lychees, grass jelly drinks, canned roasted eel, bamboo shoots, Pocky (lovingly bubble wrapped), to rubber bands, vitamins, and velcro strips. It's funny what mothers can think of!

I am so grateful for my parents, sending their love in the form of food as only Chinese parents can.
