Parents and technology

My little brother's Facebook status:

Mom just sent an email: "you should drink lots of authentic orange or watermelon juice (not soda, you need lots of Vitemin C). Not to wear Flip-flap all the time---it is not formal at all. mm"

In college, I would often get emails with these nuggets of wisdom:

1. Drive carefully when back on Sunday (23). Do not Over draw your money.
3.  You guys need to inform each other where you go or when to come back. So connie know how to prepare dinner. Clifford, I want you to stay home more for dinner as possibe as you can for you are not home for a long time. I want you to chit chat with your silbings and spend time together and talk more.
9. Just come home to relax, sleep and enjoy food.

mm

In case you didn't catch on, "mm" is not the sound of delicious approval, but her abbreviation for "mom."

On the flip side, here is my dad's text message to me today:

Dear Connie, I have Office Hours at five and will be able to pick you up after 530, for I would like to buy you dinner.

My dad always starts texts to me with "Dear Connie" as if writing a letter, or "Hi, Dear Connie" which is pretty cute too. My brother and I chuckle at how adorable my dad is at texting, because we know it probably took him minutes and minutes to send a single message.

I hope you laughed, because I did.

hahaha! I had a friend in high school whose parent (or was it grandparent?) would instant message her from downstairs in their own house with "Dear _______."
