Cathartic Baking

Ever feel really antsy and distracted while studying for an exam, and make mental lists of all the things that you're going to do as soon as it's over?

My list goes something like:

1. Shop for groceries
2. Put on sweatpants and tie up my hair.
3. Bake tons of goodies. And I mean tons.

This is my list: (Updated!)

Joy the Baker Salted Caramel Cheesecake Pie
Delicious. The crust was a bit crumbly and finnicky though.

Smitten Kitchen Chocolate Cake Roll
How much simpler can chocolate cake get? Not much. Except when you have to roll it in a towel and it gets stuck everywhere and it breaks off into fluffs of chocolate fluff.

Cream puffs, from where my cream puff snobbery stems

White chocolate macadamia nut cookies (my fave!)
I think I prefer America's Test Kitchen chocolate chip cookie base to Alton Brown's--higher flour to butter ratio makes for less spreadage in the pan.

Cream Cheese Caramel Apple Turnovers
You're going to be disappointed in me...I bought store-bought puff pastry.

Peppermint Bark
My trainee gifted me with a bag of Ghirardelli peppermint bark! I love that stuff and have basically inhaled the entire bag...well not yet, but soon.

Let's pretend there are enough hours in a day to make all of those things. And enough people around me to actually enjoy them (Hospital Volunteer Christmas party on Friday, holla!)

Tomorrow, I'm going to knock out my final for Medical Microbiology, head to Safeway and Trader Joe's, and then make a complete, epic mess in my kitchen. The worst part is always the clean up. I wish I had a dishwasher, of the human variety...
