Today, I had three classes to attend before I was home free. Campus was mostly empty, and lectures sparsely attended. No one was really paying attention to anything except to thoughts of going home.
Around lunchtime, I was at the Public Health Library searching for a book. I was squinting at the book I wanted on the topmost shelf, about three feet out of reach. Suddenly I feel a pressure against my backpack, and I knew someone was turning the crank to move the bookshelf behind me. There wasn't enough space to turn around, so I put my hands out in front of me and started desperately pushing against the front shelf, which didn't budge. I shouted, "UHHH EXCUSE ME! CAN YOU PLEASE STOP MOVING THE SHELF?" I was freaking out (okay fine I know it doesn't sound like it, but I was). It happened really quickly. There was literally six inches of space in front of my face when the person stopped cranking. He came over, apologized profusely and cranked the shelf back. I ran out of the aisle and hyperventilated for five minutes. The guy at the circulation desk came over and asked if I was injured. I don't think I'd been this terrified in a long, long time.
Moral of the story: Always check for people before cranking those thousand-pound death traps. Also, don't go to the library when you could be eating lunch instead.
Which brings me to my next story.
After I calmed down from that ordeal, I bought an Odwalla from Pat Brown's, near Morgan Hall. I paid by debit card. The cashier fumbled around and said she'd made a mistake, but was trying to fix it. Turns out instead of $4.10, I was charged $41.00. Twice. So right now there is a charge on my bank account for an $82.00 bottle of juice. My bank account funds better be replenished soon.
In light of this, I'm glad I am home, where walls don't close up around me, and food items aren't outrageously overpriced.
